Edo State
University Uzairue reaffirmed its commitment to education and community
development by awarding scholarships to 24 students for the 2024/2025 academic
session.
At an event
held on December 12, 2024, in the University Senate Chambers, four students
received full scholarships, while 20 others were granted indigent scholarships
to cover tuition fees.
The Acting
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dawood Egbefo, highlighted the university’s
dedication to nurturing academic excellence and fostering leadership skills. He
described the scholarships as a dual opportunity to support deserving students
and uphold the institution’s social responsibility to its host community.
Prof. Egbefo
encouraged recipients to maintain stellar academic records, assuring them of
the institution's continued support through departmental monitoring.
“We want you
to excel academically and develop into future leaders who will make significant
contributions to society,” he said. Prof. Egbefo also praised the university’s
founder, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, and its current visitor, Senator Monday
Okpebholo, for their roles in championing education and sustainable development
in Edo State.
Registrar of
the university, Mr. Habib Ekhalefo, commended the Edo State Government for
initiating the Indigent Students Scholarship Award (ISSA), which has provided
financial assistance to many underprivileged children. He urged more families
to take advantage of the on-going programme, which covers tuition for most
courses, excluding Medicine, Nursing, Law, and other specialised fields.
Ekhalefo
explained the rigorous screening process used to identify the most deserving
candidates for the scholarships. He noted that the programme aligns with the
government’s vision to empower Edo State indigenes through education, ensuring
a brighter future for upcoming generations.
Grateful
scholarship recipients expressed their thanks to the university management and
Governor Monday Okpebholo for enabling them to pursue higher education. They
pledged to excel in their studies and represent Edo State University Uzairue
with pride.
