Nasarawa Amazon emerges winner in the 4th Betsy Obaseki Women's Football Tournament

Nasarawa Amazon Football Club emerged as champions of the 4th edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT), overcoming Bayelsa Queens in a thrilling final.


The match, held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, ended in a dramatic 5-6 penalty shootout in favor of Nasarawa Amazon after a tightly contested 90 minutes.

The victory sees Nasarawa Amazon take home the grand prize of N10 million, marking a significant achievement for the team in this highly competitive tournament.



The match, described as one of the toughest in the tournament's history, kept fans on the edge of their seats as both teams demonstrated incredible skill and resilience.

Dr. Betsy Obaseki, the First Lady of Edo State and the tournament’s founder, had earlier announced an increase in the prize pool during the flag-off ceremony. She revealed that the winner would walk away with N10 million, while the runner-up would receive N7 million.


The third-place team would earn N5 million, and the fourth-placed team would go home with N3 million. Additionally, every other participating team would be awarded N750,000 as a gesture of appreciation for their efforts.

Edo Queens, the host team, secured third place in the tournament, adding to the excitement for local fans. Their performance was commendable, as they fought hard throughout the tournament to reach the podium.

The Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament, which has grown in stature and prominence since its inception, is part of the Edo State government’s efforts to promote women's football and sports development in Nigeria.


The increased prize money this year underscores the tournament's commitment to rewarding excellence and supporting the growth of women’s football across the country.
