President Bola Tinubu has sent a heartfelt congratulatory message to the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, in honour of his 71st birthday and the eighth anniversary of his ascension to the Benin throne.

In a statement delivered by Bayo Onanuga, the President's Special Adviser, Tinubu lauded the Oba’s impactful reign, emphasising the era of peace and progress that has emerged under his leadership since his coronation in 2016.

Tinubu commended Oba Ewuare II’s exceptional diplomatic background, highlighting how his past role as Nigeria’s Ambassador to several countries, including Angola, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Italy, has greatly influenced his approach to leadership in the Benin Kingdom.

According to the President, this global experience has enhanced the monarch’s ability to govern with wisdom, tact, and grace.

Furthermore, the President recognized the Oba’s tireless efforts to preserve and restore the cultural heritage of the Benin Kingdom.

Oba Ewuare II has been instrumental in the recovery of invaluable Benin artifacts from various parts of the world, an initiative that Tinubu described as a testament to the King’s deep love for his people and commitment to safeguarding their history.

“The King’s relentless efforts and exploration of international networks to return priceless and timeless artefacts reflect his love for his people and the rich heritage of the Benin Kingdom,” Tinubu remarked.

President Tinubu also praised the Oba’s role as a wise counselor to leaders across both public and private sectors and his advocacy for participatory democracy.

He noted that the monarch’s efforts to promote civic responsibility and foster democratic engagement serve as a beacon of hope for the nation’s future.

In concluding his message, Tinubu offered prayers for the continued prosperity of the Oba, his family, and the Benin Kingdom, stating, “May the Kingdom continue to thrive under the wise leadership of Ewuare II, and may the monarch and his family be blessed with good health and happiness.”
