New Commissioner of Police Assumes Duty in Edo State

A new Commissioner of Police (CP), Umoru Peter Ozigi, has officially assumed duty in Edo State. This was disclosed in a statement released to Uptown Press on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Joel Yamu, on behalf of the Edo State Command.

The statement informed the public that CP Ozigi, a seasoned officer with over 30 years of service in the Nigeria Police Force, has taken charge of the command.


Hailing from Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State, CP Ozigi is a graduate of Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He began his career in the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, receiving his training at the prestigious Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano.

Throughout his distinguished career, CP Ozigi has held several key positions across various states and commands. Some of his notable assignments include serving as the Pioneer Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Aliero Division in Kebbi State, DPO in Langtang, Plateau State, Commanding Officer of the 21 Police Mobile Force in Nyanya, Abuja, and as an Area Commander in Nsukka, Enugu State.

He has also held senior roles at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, including the position of Force Provost Marshal.

CP Ozigi’s training and experience are extensive, having attended numerous professional courses, including the Advanced Detective Course and several leadership programmes at the Police Staff College, Jos.

He has also completed specialised training with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the FBI, and the Nigeria Defence Academy, equipping him with expertise in criminal investigations, internal security, and community policing.

According to the statement, CP Ozigi is committed to addressing the security challenges in Edo State, vowing to protect lives and property while fostering cooperation between the police and the public. He appealed for the support of residents in combating crime and ensuring the safety of the state.

CP Ozigi’s wealth of experience, discipline, and dedication are expected to guide his leadership of the Edo State Command in achieving a safer and more secure environment for all.
