Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello Granted Bail Amidst N80bn Fraud Allegations
The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, in an ongoing trial involving alleged financial misconduct.
Presiding
over the case on December 13, Justice Emeka Nwite set the bail at N500 million,
stipulating stringent conditions for its approval. The terms require Bello to
provide two sureties who must own properties within Abuja and swear to an
affidavit of means.
Bello, who
is facing a 19-count charge relating to alleged money laundering to the tune of
N80 billion, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read in court. The case
has attracted significant public attention due to the magnitude of the
allegations and Bello's prominence as a political figure.
The trial
continues as prosecutors prepare to present their evidence against the former
governor in what could become one of the most high-profile corruption cases in
recent years.
