Nigerian Teacher Winnifred Iwenamen Aims for Guinness World Record in Long-Distance Biking
A passionate motorbike enthusiast and teacher, Winnifred Iwenamen, is set to make history by attempting to break the Guinness World Record for long-distance biking. The Edo-born rider aims to cover over 500 kilometres within 12 hours non-stopin a bid to surpass the existing record.
Speaking at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Benin City, the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma graduate expressed her determination to achieve this remarkable feat. She revealed that her love for biking, coupled with divine inspiration, motivated her to embark on this challenge.
Initially, she had planned a route from Benin City to Lagos, but the Guinness World Records authorities declined the use of commercial roads. Instead, she opted for a dedicated race track in Ebhobanosa, near Light House Polytechnic, along the Benin-Agbor Road, which has received official approval for the attempt.
"I have been riding bikes for over ten years, but this will be my first major event," Winnifred said. "I will be using a motocross bike, similar to those designed for desert terrains, and my goal is to surpass the existing 500-kilometre record in 12 hour."
With rigorous preparations underway, she has assembled a team to support her during the event. This includes a mechanic, a vulcaniser, an ambulance, surveyors to measure distance covered, and security personnel as official witnesses. In addition, provisions will be made for light refreshments for spectators expected to witness the event.
Set for 29th March 2025, the challenge will be a test of endurance, skill, and mental resilience. As she takes on this ambitious goal, the biking community and supporters across Nigeria eagerly await to see if she can etch her name in the record books.
Winnifred Iwenamen, who graduated in 2012 with
