Osun APC Suspends Ex-Minister Aregbesola Over Alleged Party Violations
The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the suspension of Rauf Aregbesola, former Minister of Interior, citing alleged violations of party discipline.
The suspension was disclosed in a letter signed by Osun APC
Chairman Tajudeen Lawal and Secretary Alao Kamoru. Addressed to the APC
National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, the letter shared with the press outlined
accusations of anti-party activities allegedly committed by Aregbesola in his
home base, Ilesa East Local Government Area.
According to the letter, the Osun APC's State Executive
Council (SEC) assessed the accusations and resolved to suspend Aregbesola,
pending a disciplinary committee's investigation. SEC cited Article
21(3)(vi)(c) of the party’s constitution, which allows such measures when
members are accused of actions deemed harmful to party unity and discipline.
Among the listed allegations are Aregbesola’s purported
support of splinter factions, including the Omoluabi caucus, and accusations
that he formed parallel party structures. The letter further claims he publicly
criticized prominent party figures, including President Bola Tinubu, and has
allegedly collaborated with opposition parties while disengaging from APC
activities in Osun State since 2019.
The disciplinary committee has been tasked with conducting
an investigation and inviting Aregbesola to respond to the allegations within
14 days. SEC emphasised its commitment to safeguarding party unity and warned
of strict consequences for members found violating party rules.
“SEC reiterates its dedication to fostering discipline
within the Osun APC. We urge members to avoid conduct that threatens the
integrity and cohesion of the party,” the statement read.
