Senate Reschedules Ministerial Screening for Ojukwu, Oduwole, and Others
The Senate has rescheduled the screening of seven ministerial nominees, which was initially slated for Tuesday.
The delay is intended to provide more time for nominees to
finalise necessary documentation and complete pre-screening requirements,
according to a statement issued by Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on
Senate Matters, Basheer Lado.
The new screening date has been set for Wednesday, where the
Senate, led by President Godswill Akpabio, is expected to evaluate the
qualifications of each nominee. The postponed exercise follows a recent cabinet
reshuffle in which President Tinubu dismissed five ministers, appointed seven
new nominees for Senate confirmation, and reassigned ten ministers to different
portfolios.
Among the new nominees is Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, tapped as
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, while Nentawe Yilwatda has been proposed
as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction. Others include
Maigari Dingyadi for the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Jumoke Oduwole for
the Ministry of Industry, Idi Maiha for the newly created Ministry of Livestock
Development, Yusuf Ata as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development,
and Suwaiba Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.
With these nominations, the administration aims to
strengthen key sectors, especially given recent transitions.
