 Our reporter

Tragedy struck on Saturday in the bustling Oshodi area of Lagos as a 50-year-old man, identified as Emmanuel, was fatally struck by a moving train near Arena Shopping Mall.

Sources informed The PUNCH, that the heart-breaking incident occurred in the early morning hours. The victim’s sister, whose name has not yet been disclosed, received a distressing call around 9 a.m., informing her that her older brother had been involved in the tragic accident.

The Lagos State Police Command, through its Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the Mosafejo Division was alerted around 1:33 p.m. A team of detectives was immediately dispatched to the scene for investigation.

"The scene was visited and photographed by a team of detectives," Hundeyin stated. "The corpse was evacuated to a public morgue for an autopsy."

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident has now been transferred to the Railway Police Command in Ebute Metta.

This is not the first train-related fatality in Lagos in recent months. In August, a similar tragedy occurred in the Mushin area of the state when a man was crushed to death while walking along the Cappa railway tracks.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), in a statement, confirmed that the victim died instantly due to the severity of the injuries sustained from the impact.

As investigations continue into Emmanuel’s tragic death, the community is left in mourning and once again reminded of the dangers posed by trains in densely populated areas of Lagos.
