Delta State Police Pledge Thorough Investigation into Death of Precious Yusuf, Found Dead in Asaba after meeting online lover (Photos)
The Delta State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the tragic death of 23-year-old Precious Yusuf, whose body was discovered along DLA Road in Asaba, near Falcon Club, on October 24.
The incident has prompted an outpouring of grief from the community and an official statement of condolence to the family from the police command.
According to SP Bright Edafe, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police, a distress call was received by the DPO of ‘A’ Division Asaba, CSP Rex Abiodun, around 8:40 a.m., notifying the police about the discovery of a woman’s body along DLA Road.CSP Abiodun immediately mobilised a team to the scene, confirming the identity of the deceased as Precious Yusuf.
Preliminary findings revealed that Precious had informed a friend on October 22 of her plans to meet with a male acquaintance she had connected with on the iHappy dating platform.
She reportedly left her home for a rendezvous with the individual in Coka. By the morning of October 23, around 7:30 a.m., she called her friend, stating she was on her way back, but this would be her last known contact. Her body was discovered the following day.
SP Edafe confirmed that Precious's remains have been taken to the mortuary for an autopsy, as investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death intensify.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, extended his condolences to Precious’s family and assured them that justice would be pursued.
He also issued a cautionary statement to the public, especially young women, advising prudence and vigilance when interacting with new acquaintances met online.
The Commissioner underscored the potential risks associated with casual meetups from dating apps and social media, emphasizing the importance of safety and responsible engagement on these platforms.
As the investigation proceeds, the Delta State Police are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward to aid in resolving this case.
