Edo State Government Condemns Incitement to Disrupt Benin High Court Operations

Benin City— The Edo State Government has issued a stern warning against recent social media posts that incite disruptions at the Benin High Court scheduled for Monday, July 15. 

The condemnation came in a statement on Saturday from the Hon. Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Osa Nehikhare, who expressed deep concern over attempts to interfere with the judicial process through threats and calls for public unrest.

Nehikhare emphasized the imperative of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all arms of government operate without intimidation or disruption.

 "The sanctity of our institutions must be upheld at all times," he stated, underscoring the government's commitment to maintaining order and justice.

The statement attributed the incitement to unscrupulous politicians aiming to destabilize the state for political gain. "Government is aware that some unscrupulous politicians are behind the plan to sponsor violence with the aim of disrupting the peace in the State to score cheap political points," Nehikhare revealed.

Addressing the youth of Edo State, the government called for vigilance against exploitation by those seeking to incite violence. Parents were also urged to protect their children from being used to further political agendas that threaten state security.

The Edo State Government assured the public that it would take all lawful measures against individuals or groups involved in activities undermining the state's peace. "We urge all law-abiding citizens to reject and ignore any calls to disrupt the peace in the State and to refrain from engaging in any actions that could jeopardize public order," Nehikhare appealed.

In closing, the government called on citizens to collaborate in preserving the integrity of state institutions and maintaining the peace and harmony of Edo State. "It is only through respect for the law and due process that we can ensure a just and orderly society for all," the statement concluded.
