Obaseki Inaugurates Transition Committee, Charges Members on Effective Documentation for Seamless Transition

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has inaugurated a Transition Committee tasked with ensuring a smooth and seamless transition to the next administration.

This initiative comes as Obaseki's tenure approaches its conclusion, with the handover set for November 12, 2024.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Governor Obaseki underscored the importance of meticulous documentation of his administration's achievements, policy reforms, and milestones. He emphasized that such documentation would provide clear guidance and direction for the incoming government and future administrations.

"Today, the 11th of July, will mark exactly four months to the date I will hand over government to the next elected Governor of Edo State," Obaseki stated. "As is global best practice, I am putting together a team, a transition team that will have the responsibility to document the achievements of this administration since inception."

Obaseki highlighted the committee's role in collating and structuring all relevant documents and materials related to the policies and decisions made over the past eight years. This effort aims to create a comprehensive digital and physical data repository, serving as an institutional memory for future reference.

"I believe also that most of those materials have now been digitized. So, a proper digital, and regular data room will be created where all documents relating to every activity, contract, ExCo decisions, policy papers, presentations in every area, would be documented and chronicled," Obaseki said. "This should serve as an institutional memory for the next administration and subsequent administrations."

The Governor mandated the committee to complete its task by October 30, 2024, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver exceptional results. He noted that the team's composition was instrumental in his administration's success, driving progress across critical sectors.

"You will put together reports on each area, each aspect of government that we have intervened in, and recommendations for the next administration," Obaseki added. "At the end of the day, we have both a physical and digital repository of all the information and decision records, which we have taken during the life of this administration."

The Transition Committee, chaired by Mr. Joseph Eboigbe, was lauded for its resourcefulness and competence. Eboigbe, in his remarks, thanked the Governor for the opportunity and assured that the committee would deliver its mandate with utmost transparency and professionalism.

"On behalf of the members of this committee, sir, we pledge today that we would discharge the responsibility vested on us with utmost diligence, professionalism, and meet the timeframe that is set for us," Eboigbe stated. "The achievements and initiatives you have implemented in these past eight years have been immense. So, there is a need to properly document for research and other purposes, going forward into the future."

Eboigbe assured the Governor that the committee would exceed expectations, benefiting Edo State and its citizens.

Governor Obaseki concluded by expressing his unwavering faith and confidence in the committee, wishing them Godspeed in their assignment. "I want to thank you very much, and wish you Godspeed in this assignment," he said.

The transition process marks a significant step in ensuring continuity and the sustained progress of Edo State, setting a benchmark for future administrations.
