FG to Investigate new Federal Varsities

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday ordered tour of the nine federal universities established by the past administration to probe the projects executed by the universities. President Buhari said the move was to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of funds and resources given to them for the smooth take off of the universities.
The president who made the disclosure during the maiden Convocation of Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State, stated that his administration will not condone corruption in the federal universities. The president represented by the Executive Secretary National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Rasheed Adamu Abubakar, pointed out that universities must be example in good governance and financial management.
‘’There should be no room for corruption in the academic sector. Very soon, we will take tour of all projects executed by our new federal universities to ensure that funds allocated to them are judiciously utilized. Our universities must be example in good governance and financial management. So, no room for corruption in the academic sector.’’In his remarks, the vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, said that the university has the least financial charges placed upon students among all the universities in the zone. He stated that the internally generated revenue is low adding that capital and overhead provisions are also low when related to the cost of energy and maintaining student’s hostels alone not to mention several other items that must be provided daily by the university.
