Oba of Benin to Conclude Igue Festival with ‘Ugie Ewere’ Ceremony on December 30th
The revered monarch, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin, will on Monday, December 30th, 2024, mark the grand finale of the Annual Igue Festival with the much-anticipated ‘Ugie Ewere’ ceremony.
This significant event, which traditionally ushers in
blessings for the coming year, will be held at the Oba’s Palace in Benin City,
starting at 1:00 p.m.
In an official announcement, Osaigbovo Iguobaro, Chief Press
Secretary to the Oba of Benin, extended a formal invitation to all Chiefs,
Edionwere (village and community heads), Ikao (traditional heads), Ohen
(traditional priests), and Okaigheles (youth leaders) to attend the Ugie Ewere
ceremony. The event is designed to bring divine blessings to the homes and
families of the Benin Kingdom and to offer prayers for a prosperous new year
for all of mankind.
The Ugie Ewere ceremony is an integral part of the Igue
Festival, which celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Benin Kingdom and
its royal traditions. This year’s occasion promises to be especially momentous
as it follows a year marked by spiritual renewal and community unity.
