Our reporter
Governor
Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has extended a compassionate gesture by offering
automatic employment to the daughter of the late Comrade Anthony Kaduna
Ebiogbodin, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in Edo
State.
This
announcement came during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased union
leader, who passed away recently.
The Governor
expressed sorrow over the circumstances of Comrade Ebiogbodin's death,
attributing it to a heated argument with police officers at a checkpoint. He
criticized the conduct of the officers involved and pledged to address such
issues with the Edo State Police Commissioner, Umoru Ozigi, to prevent similar
incidents in the future.
Accompanied
by NLC Acting Chairman Comrade Bernard Joman Egwakhide, civil society leaders,
and other organized labor representatives, Governor Okpebholo met with the late
unionist's family, offering his condolences and signing a condolence register
in honor of the deceased.
He
acknowledged the irreplaceable loss, urging a reflection on the transience of
life while emphasizing the need for justice and reforms to safeguard residents
of the state. Civil society and labor leaders, including Rev. David Ugolor and
Barr. Abraham Oviawe, have called for a thorough investigation into the events
leading to Comrade Ebiogbodin's death.
The late
Comrade Ebiogbodin, aged 64, was remembered for his contributions to labor
advocacy and service to the Edo State workforce.
