Governor Okpebholo has unveiled an ambitious N605.7 billion budget proposal for 2025, emphasising a commitment to advancing key development areas. The budget, dubbed the “Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo,” was presented to the State House of Assembly on Tuesday and reflects a 25% increase over the 2024 fiscal allocation.

Capital expenditure takes the lion’s share of the budget at N381 billion (63%), underscoring the administration’s focus on development projects. Meanwhile, recurrent expenditure accounts for N223 billion (37%), covering essential government operations.

A sectoral breakdown revealed key allocations, including:

N162 billion for road development, promising improved connectivity across the State.

N48 billion for education, aimed at enhancing learning facilities and resources.

N63.9 billion for health, bolstering healthcare infrastructure and services.

N1.8 billion for the State’s health insurance scheme, supporting accessible healthcare for residents.

N4.5 billion for agriculture, with a focus on driving food security and sustainability.

Governor Okpebholo stressed that the budget was crafted through extensive consultations to ensure it meets the needs of Edo citizens. He also stressed the importance of accountability and transparency in implementing the budget, positioning the government to deliver responsive and impactful services.

The proposed budget now awaits deliberation and approval by the Edo State House of Assembly. If passed, it is expected to significantly contribute to the State’s economic and social development, setting a strong foundation for the future.
