Senator Okpebholo and Hon. Idahosa Inaugurated as Edo State Governor and Deputy Governor

At Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Senator Monday Okpebholo and Honorable Dennis Idahosa were inaugurated as the Governor and Deputy Governor of Edo State.



The solemn event saw both leaders taking the oath of allegiance and the oath of office, administered by the Chief Judge of Edo State, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, at precisely 12:54 p.m. on Monday.

Governor Okpebholo, dressed in a sharp blue suit paired with a red tie, was accompanied by his children as he signed the official documents, marking the beginning of his tenure.

The stadium was alive with the applause of thousands of citizens who came to witness the new administration take office. Okpebholo’s wave to the jubilant crowd was met with enthusiastic cheers, underscoring the public’s optimism for his leadership.

After taking the oaths, he inspected a guard of honour, accompanied by a parade organised by the Nigeria Police, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigerian Correctional Service. The Nigeria Police March Band filled the stadium with patriotic music, further heightening the excitement of the day.

 

Earlier in the ceremony, Hon. Dennis Idahosa took his oath of office as Deputy Governor, standing alongside his wife. Following the oath, Idahosa joined Governor Okpebholo in signing official documents, marking the seamless start of their joint administration.

 

The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including Nigeria's Vice President, Kashim Shettima, and a delegation representing the Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin.

The Oba’s representatives, Chief Oghafua Oyeoba, the Oyeoba of Benin, and Chief Igiemwin George Ekhator, the Obasogie of Benin, underscored the importance of the occasion with their presence.

The APC governors present include Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Hope Uzodinma of Imo, and Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto, among others.

The National Chairman of the APC, Umar Ganduje, and his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole, a senator from Edo representing Edo North senatorial distric and formar governor of the State.

Also in attendance were various prominent Nigerians, politicians, and esteemed guests, highlighting the significance of this new chapter in Edo State’s governance.

 

In their inaugural addresses, Governor Okpebholo and Deputy Governor Idahosa pledged to uphold the Nigerian Constitution, emphasising their commitment to the progress and development of Edo State.
