Obaseki Directs Vigilante Network In The State To Resume Duties Over Rising Insecurity

In response to a surge in violent incidents, Governor Godwin Obaseki has enacted urgent security protocols, directing the Edo State Security Network (ESSN) to intensify its operations across the state.

In an official statement released to Uptown Press on Tuesday by Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, the governor’s directive followed a comprehensive assessment by the State Security Council.

The council convened in Benin City to address the recent rise in homicides and other security challenges impacting local communities.

Commissioner Nehikhare emphasised that the state government is prioritising the safety of its residents and reiterated a zero-tolerance policy toward criminal activities.

In line with these measures, the State has mandated the Commissioner of Police to collaborate with the ESSN and other security agencies to restore order and reinforce public confidence.

The State government affirmed its dedication to ensuring the safety of lives and property, stressing that community security measures would be strengthened and coordinated in affected areas.
