Inauguration: Edo State's Political Leaders Showcase Team Spirit in Thrilling Football Match
Our reporter
In a lively
display of sportsmanship and unity, Akpakomiza Friends took on a team of
ex-internationals and political heavyweights at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on
Sunday.
The match,
which started at 4:35 pm and concluded at 6:00 pm, ended in a 2-1 victory for
the Football Legends, led by ex-internationals including Austin Eguavoen and
seasoned APC chieftains.
The
star-studded game featured notable APC figures such as Sir Emperor Jarret
Tenebe, Edo State APC Chairman, who displayed impressive skills as the team’s
goalkeeper. Major General Cecil Esekhaigbe (Rtd), the National Leader of Edo
Central APC, held his own in midfield, while outgoing Edo Deputy Governor
Philip Shaibu captained the team, showcasing his athletic prowess and scoring
for his side.
Shaibu,
sporting the number 40 jersey inscribed with "Ofoneee," delighted the
crowd with his goal celebration, channelling Cristiano Ronaldo's famous
"Siuuu" move. The crowd erupted as Shaibu pointed to his jersey,
embodying the exuberance of the occasion and paying homage to his roots in the
community.
In the VIP
stand, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, National APC Leader, was among the dignitaries
present, joining incoming Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo and Deputy
Governor-elect Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa.
Okpebholo
kicked off the match in a symbolic gesture that underscored the incoming
administration’s commitment to unity and collaboration.
As Edo State
anticipates the inauguration of Governor-elect Okpebholo and Deputy
Governor-elect Idahosa on November 12th, the match served as a powerful
reminder of the camaraderie shared by its leaders.
From the
excitement of the game to the powerful show of unity among leaders, this
memorable event captured the spirit of teamwork that will define Edo's new era.
