Edo 2024: Court Adjourns Suit Challenging Akpata’s Nomination As LP Candidate

The court case challenging Olumide Akpata's nomination as the Labour Party (LP) candidate has been adjourned.

The Federal High Court in Benin was set to hear the case today, but it has been postponed to tomorrow, May 31st, 2024. The suit was filed by Kenneth Imansuangbon, a governorship aspirant of the LP, who is contesting the nomination of Olumide Akpata for the Edo gubernatorial election.

The hearing was delayed due to an oral application for a short adjournment by Olumide Akpata's counsel, Mr. N.E Ogbeide, citing the lack of being served with court processes by the plaintiff's counsel.

However, Kenneth Imansuangbon's counsel, A.A Malik (SAN), opposed the application, arguing that the case was ready for hearing as they had responded to the first defendant's processes and served them since May 22nd, 2024.

After reviewing the court file and confirming that the plaintiff's processes had been served within the jurisdictional address, the presiding Judge, Justice Babatunde Quadri, adjourned the hearing to tomorrow.

Kenneth Imansuangbon is contesting Olumide Akpata's nomination on the grounds that the Labour Party did not follow electoral guidelines in the primaries and that Olumide did not fill and sign the indemnity form, among other reasons.
