YOCEN honours Edo NUJ Chairman with Beacon Of Hope In African Award
Comrade Festus Alenkhe, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), on Tuesday was awarded the 'Beacon of Hope in African Award' by the Youth Coalition for Education in Nigeria (YOCEN). The award was presented to him as a token of recognition for his outstanding contributions towards societal transformation through various means such as human capital development, effective service delivery, educational advancement, and building a better society.
During the award ceremony, the YOCEN Head of Mission, Comrade Yusuf Hassan Abdul, expressed his admiration for Comrade Alenkhe's efforts to create a positive impact in society.
He praised Comrade Alenkhe for his immense contributions towards societal transformation, which he believed were instrumental in creating a more positive future for Africa.
He said: "The award, the Beacon of Hope in African is a recognition of your immense contributions toward societal transformation via human capital development, effective services delivery, educational advancement and a build for a better society."
Comrade Alenkhe, the humble recipient of the award, expressed his gratitude for the recognition and commended YOCEM for finding him worthy of such an honour.
He stated that he was only doing his job as a journalist and that he never expected his modest contributions to be noticed by notable bodies such as YOCEN.
Comrade Alenkhe also used the occasion to draw attention to the economic difficulties faced by many Nigerians, urging the federal government to reduce the tuition fees in tertiary institutions so that parents would be able to send their children and wards to higher institutions. He also urged the youths in the country to shun cultism and focus on the reason for being sent to school, which is to acquire knowledge and skills that would enable them to contribute positively to society.
Comrade Alenkhe's recognition by YOCEN is a testament to the power of individual actions, no matter how small they may seem, in creating a better and more positive future for Africa.
