Don't ban "SARS" or be ready for "Armed Robbers" in Nigeria - Mike Okiro warns FG

The former Inspector-General of police (IGP), Mike Okiro, has send a strong warning to Nigeria government not to ban Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

He made this statement on Thursday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, said that ‘robbers would be happy at the ban of SARS.’

“The police management should go to the drawing board and retrain personnel of the SARS as it will be counter-productive to disband them.

He said that “Armed robbers will be happy that there is no more SARS in the country but are Nigerians ready for that, “he said.

"You cannot throw away the baby with the bath water, if they have deviated from what they were established for they should be retrained and refocused,“.

Members of the SARS are doing things that are different from their training.

Mike added that, instead of banning the squad, they should be reform them to operate effectively. If any member of the squad violates the code of conduct to serve as a deterrent to others, should called for stiff punishment.
