Dr. Fabian Ihekweme Heightening Governor Hope Uzodinma's Intensity
From Dr. Uju Onyechere
The first task of a leader is to know where he is going to, and secondly, to know those individuals who will help him actualize that vision. People can only rise as high as they want in the journey of life as those that are closest to them.
Like or love him, the governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, by his actions, have demonstrated that he is a smart and intelligent leader. One of such actions, is the appointment of those working with him, amongst whom is Dr. Fabian Ihekweme, the Honourable Commissioner for Foreign and International Affairs.
Before, during and after the 2019 general election, Dr. Ihekweme showned capacity, determination and more importantly, loyalty to the mandate and vision of shared prosperity by Governor Uzodinma.
The governor's brilliance and smart move of engaging the wisdom, knowledge and experience of the likes of Dr. Ihekweme, will save him valuable time, energy and as well increase his efficiency and speed in providing the dividends of democracy to Imolites.
In making his discoveries, Issac Newton had built on the achievements of others. A great part of his intentions, he knew, was attributed to his ability to make the most of the insights of other scientists.
Thomas Edison had a method. He wasn't actually much of a scientific thinker or inventor; he once said that he had no need to be a mathematician because he could always hire one. He was really a businessman and publicist, spotting the trends and the opportunities that were out there, then hiring the best in the field to do the work for him.
Any leader who thinks it is important to do all the work himself will never go far, and he will end up suffering himself for nothing. Employing people who are smart, will always give determined leaders true success.
Great leaders find people with the skills and creativity needed to carry out their vision, and hire them. It is important to take advantage of other people's work to further the development of our community.
Mr. Tony Elumelu became a managing director of a bank at the age of 35, making him one of the youngest to ever head a bank in the history of the banking institution in Nigeria. He left the helm of affairs of United Bank for Africa at the age of 47, making him one of the youngest to leave the banking industry at his prime.
One of Mr. Elumelu's leadership secrets is his ability to recruit the right set of people to work with, at every level. According to him, "As CEO, when we were at Standard Trust Bank, I was involved in recruiting drivers. Anyone can take me up on this anytime."
He went on to state, "Why should a CEO spend time in recruiting drivers? Is that the right way to spend a CEO's time? I say yes. HR is as important, maybe even more important, than capital because when you get capital into business, capital does not operate itself."
The moral is simple, any general that succeeds in putting together a good battalion is sure to win and that is exactly what Governor Uzodinma have done with his lieutenants.
Dr. Fabian Ihekweme and his colleagues on their own part have vowed to make His Execllency, Sen. Hope Uzodinma proud by running with his vision of the three big "R" concept of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Recovery.
Governor Uzodinma would want to be remembered as a leader who continued from where late Sam Mbakwe stopped, returned Imo to the path of prosperity and certainly Dr. Fabian Ihekweme will play his own role in making that happen.
