SWAN commends governor Obaseki

The National leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) led by Comrade Ahmed Aigbona, the National President, commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for successfully hosting of the 2019 Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Annual General Assembly (AGM).

This hosting justified the Godwin Obaseki-led administration huge investment in sports development in the State and the Governor love for the sporting circle.

The hosting of the AGM is a confirmation of the philosophy of the Obaseki’s administration that sports if properly harnessed is a major contributor to socio-economic development of any society.

This bears an eternal testimony to the strategic leadership qualities of the Edo State Governor and the strengthening of the State’s position as leader in sports development across the country.

Edo people and the nation at large appreciate the development brought about by the special focus on investment in sports which is today transforming the lives of youths and thereby boosting the social and economic lives of Edo people.

The multiple impacts of this hosting is unquantifiable, its impacts on Benin City and the State’s economy will be felt in so many positive ways. Meanwhile, SWAN acknowledged the invaluable contribution and sublime leadership of its President, Comrade Ahmed Aigbona which is known for providing welfare for members.

SWAN also commended the Officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Chairmen of State Football Associations having test-run the facility at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in a Novelty Match between NFF Officials captained by the NFF President, Amaju Pinnick and Ex-Bendel Insurance Players captained by Governor Godwin Obaseki. The match ended in favour of Ex-Bendel Insurance Players by 2 goals to one.

In another development, SWAN also appreciated the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu, who is the Chairman of Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of Edo 2020, for ensuring that sporting facilities and accommodation is given priority to ensure hitch-free and successful hosting of National Sports Festival tagged Edo 2020.
