Jok'kor Ka'aram Game, Kanuri Traditional Game Resurfaces In Maiduguri



Bornoji International with the support of the British council and EU, On Wednesday 12th December, organized Jok'kor ka'aram game at Budum Primary school, Maiduguri the Borno State Capital.

Jok'kor a long Kanuri traditional game that was fast fading, is a game plyed by youth. It's one of the oldest sports with a history dating back to more than three thousand years.


According to Prof. Ibrahim Umara, the Head of department of Political science, University of Maiduguri Jok'kor is a tradition of the kunuris, similar to modern football and allied games.

It's played to poster unity among the young people and warriors are recognized through their resilience and attitude.

Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio MNI, who represented the Governor of Borno State, Professor Banagana Umara Zulum, disclosed that the State Government in collaboration with the traditional leaders in the state will work on ways to bring back the long lost tradition of the people in order to poster peace and unity among the people.

Dr. Mali MNI, also urged the young people who attended the occasion to copy from the players and adopt it to pass their time after school in order to stay idle or engage in illicit activities.

Representative of the British council Hajja Zara Goni Dunoma expressed her appreciation for all those that made the occasion possible.

Mr. Abdulkarim Bala Isa, representative of the EU also expressed his happiness and called on all to embrace peace and unity.

Bornoji International, a consultancy organization that is poised to resurcitate the long lost tradition of Kamen Borno Empire. The empire is comprised of the present Lake Chad Region that cut across Nigeria, Chad, Sudan Cameroon and Niger.

Many traditional leaders, top Civil servants as well as media organizations Led by Brtv General manager Adamu Isa Abadam graced the occasion. Also, other Kanuri traditional dances such as the Maliki dance was Also played at the occasion
