Appeal Court halts judgement disqualifying APC from Bayelsa guber poll

The court of appeal sitting in Abuja has suspended the judgement of a federal high court in Yenagoa which disqualified the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Bayelsa state.

Jane Inyang, a judge, had annulled the primary election which produced David Lyon as candidate of the APC and also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to recognise any of the aspirants that participated in the exercise.

She gave the order based on a suit filed by Heineken Lokpobiri, an aspirant in the primary poll.

Lokpobiri had said he won the election and that the leadership of the party did not follow the laid down rules in announcing Lyon as flagbearer of the party.

After the judgement of the federal high court in Yenagoa, the APC headed to the appellate court in Abuja, seeking to set aside the ruling.
