Tribunal upholds Edo federal lawmaker electoral victory

The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Benin City, Edo State has upheld the victory of Senator Francis Alimikhena in the last Senatorial election in Edo North senatorial district.

Engineer Abubakar Momoh of the People's Democratic Party his main opponent in the senatorial election had petition the court challenging the victory, but the Tribunal dismissed the petition for lack of merit in the issues raised in it.

The Tribunal, therefore, ruled that the Petitioner could not prove beyond reasonable doubt the allegations of not qualified to contest, over voting, corrupt practices, vote buying and substantial compliance to provisions of Electoral Act.

The Tribunal also held that the evidence adduced by most of the Petitioner's Prosecution Witnesses  had little fidelity to truth.

It was also held that the issue of corrupt practices could not be proved as it could not be ascertained whether the first respondent or his agents committed the act.

Reacting to the victory Senator Francis Alimikhena gave glory to God Almighty and dedicated it to the good people of Edo North Senatorial District saying that it reaffirmed the confidence they reposed in him.

Senator Francis Alimikhena representing Edo North senatorial district in the upper legislative chamber is serving a second tenure at the National Assembly.
