Edo Speaker pledges effective supervision of sporting facilities
The speaker ,Edo state house of assembly ,Rt.Hon.Francis Okiye has said that the house committee on Information, youths and sports will be supervising some of the sporting facilities in the state including the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in other to access the level of the preparedness of the state ahead of the hosting of two sporting events next year.
Hon.Okiye stated this when he inaugurate members of the committee on information, youths and sports in Benin city yesterday .
The Samuel Ogbemudia stadium will serve as one of the venues hosting the FIFA under 20 women world cup and the National festival of arts and culture early next year.
He said "For us at the house it is our resolve to ensure the speedy passage of a bill that seek for a law to provide for the establishment of Edo state sports commission.
" In achieving this,we will be working together, we will have reasons to call for an interactions and we might have reasons to look at the books and participate in entrenching your policies and programs for the betterment of the people of Edo state. Also the speaker, express his willingness to serve the reality as the chairman of the committee and that he will not be operating by proxy. He added.
Responding on behalf of other members of the committee on information, youths and sports, the commissioner for communication, Hon.Paul Ohonmbamu assured of the co-operation and loyalty of other members in ensuring that the committee achieve its objectives.
Hon Ohonmbamu said "on behalf of other members of the committee on information, youth and sports, I am assuring you of loyalty and co-operation in ensuring we continue to do all the house desire of us within the limits of legitimate expectations" .
Also ,Hon.Damian Lawani ,Commissioner for youths and sports ,assured that whatever assistance it is to move this committee forward will be provided adding that the inauguration of the committee by the speaker is a clear indication that the house is not only working but also functional.
Hon. Damian thanked the members of the House for their support towards the Obaseki led administration while promising his cooperation to the committee in the execution of their over site functions.
The committee on information, youths and sports following its inauguration is expected to be supervised by the house committee on selection which has the speaker as its chairman.
The other members of the committee are ,the Deputy speaker, Hon.Yekini Idaiye,Hon.Asoro Roland ,Hon.Marcus Onobun, Hon.Eric Okaka and Hon. Ephraim Alobosele .
