Insecurity: Health workers protest kidnap of CMD in Edo
Workers of the Irrua Specialist Hospital in Edo State on Tuesday shut the medical facility to protest the kidnap of the Chief Medical Director, Professor Sylvanus Okogbenin.
The staff members including medical doctors carried placards with various inscriptions such as: "Our CMD is a leader, release him", No CMD no work" to draw government attention to the ugly incident.
The protesters barricaded the entrance of the hospital and extended the protest to the Auchi- Benin Expressway to show their displeasure on the high rate of insecurity in the State.
One of the protesters, Jeffery (surname withheld) told this blog in a telephone chat, that they are calling on the government to fish out the perpetrators of the evil act.
According him: " The level of insecurity in this country is getting out of hand. We were shocked to receive the news of our CMD being kinapped yesterday in Benin City. We are calling on the authority in charge of security in this country to wake up and do their job."
