Auchi Poly Implements Computer Based Test to Tackle Corruption
The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi has perfected plans to execute Computer Based Examination for her students. This development was made known by the substantive Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Momodu Sanusi Jimah on Friday at the 36th Matriculation ceremony of the institution.
According to the Rector, the CBT will advance the students' knowledge of the use of electronic means of learning, which according to him is of immense benefits in today's world driven by Information Technology. He added that the CBT which will take-off in the 2017/2018 academic session for all National Diploma 1(ND)and Higher National Diploma (HND 1) students will solve the problem of examination malpractice, one of major challenges facing education in Nigeria.
As part of the transformation agenda in the Polytechnic, the management has ensured students can now access their examination results online. "In addition, hostel accomodation is now done online to reduce sharp practices hitherto associated with allocation of hostel spaces."
Dr Sanusi said that as part of the Polytechnic management efforts to rid the institution of corrupt practices no fewer than five members of staff are currently facing disciplinary process for extortion while eighteen students were expelled for exam malpractice in the 2016/2017 academic session.
In total, the Polytechnic matriculates eleven thousand, one hundred and seventy three students. A break down of this figure reveales that, six thousand, three hundred and eighteen are admitted into ND programme and four thousand, eight hundred and fifty five students admitted into HND programme.
The Polytechnic also martriculates one hundred and ninety-eight students in the degree programme run in affiliation with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The Rector advised the students to take their studies seriously and shun all forms of negative activities such as cultism.
One of the matriculants told this blog he is delighted to be admitted into the Polytechnic and thanked the management of the institution for embracing Computer Based Test as this will make the students technological savvy and reduce examination malpractice.
