Nigerian Scientists Can Revive the Economy
The Ag. Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Dr. (TPL) Sanusi Momodu Jimah on Thursday said that the much needed advancement of the Nigeria's economy from the near absolute dependence on oil and gas can only be achieved by the pragmatic contributions of Nigerian scientists through emphases on the development of entrepreneural skills, technological re-orientation and industrilization within the context of a developing economy.
The Rector spoke at the 10th annual Chemtech conference of the Chemical Society of Nigeria-AUCHI 2017, tagged: "Chemistry as a Tool for Technologies, Entrepreneural and Economic Development". He noted that Auchi Polytechnic has the mandate to train and re-train middle manpower to provide the much needed technological services in the economic developmen of the nation, to conduct research and promote value chain enhancement activities in the production and utilization of tools, materials and machines to drive industrilization in Nigeria.

On the contribution of the polytechnic to technological advancement, the Rector stated that the institution has conducted and achieved significant land marks in the production and End-use of various products, tools and machines which has earned her awards in exhibition competition among polytechnics in Nigeria.
He thanked the Society for organising the conference, adding that it's not only timely and apt, but of great significance and quite relevant in tackling the current state of social-economic challenges io our country.

Earlier, the Chairman, Chemical Society of Nigeria, Edo State Chapter, Professor Philip Oviawe explained that the conference seeks to establish and bring to fore, the role of the Chemists in the economic developmen of Nigeria through enterpreneurship and technology.
According to him, entrepreneurship and technology are the engine of economic growth and they have come to be perceived as catalytic agents for expansion and promotion of productive activities in every sphere of economic life all over the world.
He told the participants at the conference that the "Society reached out to professionals and scientists in the field to give reports of its impact and contributions towards economic development of Nigeria through entrpreneurship and technology." He furthered.
The Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) was founded in 1971. It's the umbrella body of all Chemists in Nigeria with the mandate to protects the professional interest of Chemists as well as promote the progation, study and practice of the Science of chemistry in Nigeria.
