LASU To Admit Between 4,800 To 5,000 Candidates For 2016/2017 Academic Session
The Lagos State University (LASU), on Wednesday said it would admit between 4,800 and 5,200 candidates for the 2016/2017 academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Olarenwaju Fagbohun said this in an interview with newsmen in Lagos, he said the reason for this was to give room for other development during the exercise, he noted that some of the students offered provisional admission may not register and some may have gotten admission elsewhere, among other reasons.
Fagbohun said the carrying capacity quota for the university from the National Universities Commission (NUC) was actually over 7,000.
But, the university’s authorities do not want to stretch the available faculties because of greed, he said.
“As a responsible institution that had conducted an audit of the available facilities, we have decided not to go beyond admitting 5,200 candidates until we expand our facilities.
He added that the institution is working towards improving the school facilities in order to meet with NUC quota which will enable applicants to choose the institution as their most preferred.
According to him, the present population of the school is 13,000 and the management is adhering to the NUC’s guidelines regarding teacher students ratio.
He also added that the institution was preparing for the accreditation of 32 programmes to be carried out by the NUC this month.
