Nigerian Society's Comments Too Aggressive Aginst Almagiri's

Kano — The Nigerian society is too aggressive in its comment about the young Almajiri. He is not recruited by terrorists. "If you say the young Almajiri is being abused in the form of child labour; immoralities like sexual abuse in the form of sodomy; and drug abuse, I will agree with you. But I don't subscribe to the belief that he is being recruited into terrorism. The Nigerian society is too aggressive in its comment about the Almajiri being recruited by terrorists. The kids are too young for that. "The Centre is working on an Almajiri Initiative under which we will establish schools to employ the Alarammas (an Alaramma is the person who has memorized the Holy Quran and is especially engaged in teaching the Almajirai or reciting it during Islamic preaching) to teach the recitation of the Quran properly to the young children while they also receive lessons in western education. Our aim is to marry the two curricular for the proper Quranic and western education of the youngsters. For this, we will pick young Almajirai between the ages of five and six. We will provide for all their sustenance, like feeding and clothing. This is with a view to rescuing the Almajirai. "Khalifa Isyaka Rabiu has given us a foundation (Waqaf) in his university here in Kano, to expand the programme. Under this expansion we will teach the Almajirai skills like tailoring, carpentry and many others so that they cease being problems to themselves and the society. "I don't also subscribe to the idea of abolishing Bara by the young Almajirai without putting in place concrete plans for their proper education and development." As societal transformations, occurring along with various features that necessitate and facilitate breaks from certain olden systems, flow in the broad trajectory of modernity, the Almajiri may continue to be chained in abuses and degradations - a feature signifying the gradual consignment of the system which gave birth to him to history.
