President Tinubu Mourns Children Killed in Ibadan Funfair Tragedy, Orders Investigation
President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic incident at the Children’s Funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State, which claimed the lives of 35 children and left many others injured.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the
President conveyed his deepest condolences to the Government and people of Oyo
State, as well as to the bereaved families who have lost their precious
children.
President Tinubu has also instructed the relevant
authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances
surrounding this disaster.
He stressed the importance of determining whether negligence
or any deliberate actions by the event organisers contributed to the tragedy,
emphasising the need for a transparent and accountable investigation process.
The President further urged the Oyo State Government to take
all necessary steps to prevent such a tragic event from happening again. He
highlighted the importance of reviewing safety measures for public events,
enforcing strict safety regulations, and conducting regular safety audits of
event venues.
Additionally, Tinubu called on event organisers to
prioritise the safety of all attendees, especially children.
"Our children’s safety and well-being must always be
our top priority. No event should ever jeopardise their safety or place their
lives in danger," President Tinubu affirmed.
