Mohbad’s Widow finally Agrees to DNA Test to Confirm Son's Paternity Amid Family Settlement
Omowunmi Aloba, the widow of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, has agreed to undergo a DNA test to confirm the paternity of their only son, Liam.
This decision follows a prolonged family dispute that began after Mohbad’s untimely death on September 12, 2024, under mysterious circumstances. His death sparked a public outcry, resulting in the exhumation of his body for an autopsy in hopes of uncovering the cause of his death.
The legal battle over Liam's paternity intensified when Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, filed a court application demanding a DNA test for his grandson.
However, initial attempts to serve Omowunmi with court papers were unsuccessful, prompting the family’s legal team, led by Emmanuel Oroko, to seek alternative ways to move forward. Following several failed attempts at direct service, the court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, directed the parties to seek alternative dispute resolution.
The parties entered into private negotiations that eventually yielded an agreement, with Omowunmi consenting to the DNA test under specific terms. Monisola Odumosu, a representative for the Aloba family’s legal team, confirmed that Omowunmi had agreed to proceed with the test in line with settlement terms drafted by both parties.
According to Odumosu, the court adopted the terms of settlement, making it legally binding.
The terms outline that the DNA test will take place at two accredited medical facilities within Lagos State or another mutually agreed-upon facility outside Lagos, with Joseph Aloba covering all associated costs.
The court also appointed officers to supervise the testing process, aiming to guarantee the test’s credibility.
The court further ordered that each party bear its legal costs, except for the DNA test expenses, which will be covered by the applicant.
This resolution comes as the family continues to seek closure amid on-going investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
