My focus is on addressing Nigeria's Current Challenges, Not 2027 Elections- Atiku

Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, has stated that his current focus is on addressing the pressing challenges facing Nigeria, rather than the politics surrounding the 2027 elections.

In a statement released on Thursday night by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku expressed deep concern over the hardships many Nigerians have endured since President Bola Tinubu took office in May 2023.

Ibe stressed that the former Vice President is preoccupied with the immediate and ongoing issues affecting the nation, particularly the economic difficulties that have worsened under the current administration.

This response came in reaction to recent comments made by Bode George, the former deputy national chairman (south) of the PDP. George had suggested that Atiku should consider retiring from active politics and possibly wait until 2031 if he still harbors aspirations for the presidency.

Addressing George's remarks, Ibe stated, "At this point, Atiku Abubakar’s preoccupation is not 2027. His concern is about 2024. It is about 2025 and 2026 and beyond. His concern is about the plight of Nigerians who are literally going through hell because of the failed trial-and-error policies of this administration."

Ibe further criticized the Tinubu administration, describing it as "insensitive" to be discussing future elections while many Nigerians are struggling under the current leadership.

He also advised George to redirect his focus toward encouraging President Tinubu to reconsider policies that have exacerbated poverty and division across the country, rather than prioritizing the political dynamics of 2027.
