Super Eagles Head Coach Finidi George Resigns Amid Poor Performance and Demotion

Lagos— Super Eagles head coach Finidi George has resigned from his position less than a month after his official appointment.

This decision comes in the wake of a string of unsatisfactory results that led to his demotion and a significant reduction in his salary by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Appointed with high expectations, George's tenure has been marred by a lackluster performance. Under his leadership, the Super Eagles played four matches, securing just one win, one draw, and suffering two losses.

This performance fell short of the hopes placed in him, prompting the NFF to take drastic measures.

According to multiple sources, the NFF reacted swiftly to the early disappointments by demoting George and slashing his monthly salary from N15 million to N5 million. Additionally, he was informed that he would be relegated to the position of an assistant coach under a yet-to-be-named foreign head coach.

The decision to demote and cut George's salary reportedly came before he even completed his first month in charge, signaling the NFF's urgent desire to rectify the team's trajectory.

The NFF is expected to make an official statement regarding the next steps for the Super Eagles and the future of the coaching staff. Meanwhile, the search for a new head coach begins, with the hope that this change will bring about the desired improvements and restore the team's fortunes on the international stage.
