Battle for Supremacy: Wike ally rejects redeployment, resigns as commissioner in Rivers

A high-ranking member of the Rivers State government, Zacchaeus Adangor, has stepped down from his position as commissioner after being reassigned to a different ministry by Governor Sim Fubara. Adangor, who had previously served as the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of Rivers State, was transferred to the Commissioner of Special Duties in the Governor’s Office.

In his resignation letter, Adangor, a close ally of former governor Nyesom Wike, criticized Governor Fubara for interfering with his duties as Attorney General and expressed his dissatisfaction with the transfer. Adangor announced his resignation from the Rivers Executive Council, effective April 24, 2024, stating that he decided to resign to protect his reputation.

Read his rsolve below:

“The Governor of Rivers State had in the past couple of weeks willfully interfered with the performance of my duties as the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

“I wish to state for the record that I am no longer willing to continue to serve in the administration of His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, in any capacity whatsoever.

“It is important to mention that the Governor of Rivers State had in the past couple of weeks willfully interfered with the performance of my duties as the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Rivers State, by directing me not to defend, oppose, or appear in suits insinuated against the Honourable Attorney-General and the Government of Rivers State by persons admittedly hired and sponsored by the Government of Rivers State.”
