NEDC: Gov. Buni Flags off Distribution of NEDC Dry Season Farming Inputs to Farmers In Yobe

 

The Executive Governor of Yobe state Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON (Chiroman Gujba) on Saturday 9th March 2024 flagged off the distribution of NEDC dry season farming input to farmers across the 17 LGAs in Yobe state. 
While flagging  off the distribution, Governor Buni, represented by the Deputy Governor of Yobe state, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana (Wazirin Fune) appreciated NEDC,” saying” NEDC has always been there for Yobe and beyond to give full support to the farmers of the region. 
As Agriculture remains the backbone of our nations economy and its significance in Yobe state, Gov. Buni underscores that raining season farming is no longer sustainable due to the effects of climate change and therefore informed the need for an irrigation farming and others like. 
“The  dry season farming support from NEDC is apt and timely as it will go a long way in providing food in the state and the nation at large. “I therefore, urge  the beneficiaries to make good use of the farm inputs for the benefit of their communities and the state in general,” Buni said.
In his key note address, the Managing Director/CEO NEDC Mohammed Goni Alkali represented by the Commission’s Yobe State Coordinator Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas expressed delight with the gradual return of peace to most communities and pledged to continue to more. 
Alkali said it is evident that across Yobe state, citizens are engaged in dry season farming and therefore have no doubt that the NEDC items distributed will add value to the farmers as he pledged NEDC will continue to support Yobe state agricultural initiatives of Gov. Buni through empowerment and wealth creation. 
The NEDC has been working in the Northeast region since its establishment in 2019 providing succur to the victims of insurgency in areas of peace building, livelihood and recovery, reconstruction rehabilitation and resettlement. 
“In this dry season intervention of NEDC, 1500 small scale dry season farmers across 17 Local Government Areas will benefit from the current exercise,” Alkali said.
The MD further urged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the Agric inputs effectively to make sure that they harvest the desired food produce at the end of the season.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the NEDC and Yobe State Government for providing them with the dry season farming inputs at this crucial time of economic hardship while pledging to make proper use of the items to boost dry season farming in their communities.
Highlights of the event include symbolic handover of the water pump and accessories by Gov. Buni to the benefiting farmers and group photograph sessions.
