Edo PDP chairman: Kidnappers contact family, demand #50m ransom

The abduction of the Edo State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, has been a cause of concern for many in the State.

Reports on Sunday reveal that the abductors have opened talks with his family members and have demanded a ransom of ₦50 million to secure his release. It is believed that the abductors made contact with his family on Friday, and negotiations are currently ongoing.

The family source who disclosed this information requested to remain anonymous. The source did not provide any details on what the family members are doing to raise the ransom sum or if the PDP is doing anything to assist them.

It is a relief to know that the family members are negotiating with the kidnappers, and hopefully, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi will be released soon.

The police authorities, however, have stated that they are not aware of the ransom demand. It is unclear whether the police are involved in the negotiations or if they plan to take action to secure Dr. Tony Aziegbemi's release.

According to the Police image maker of the State command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor who was contacted for clarification on the matter: “I am not aware of any ransom demand. I can only confirm What I am aware of,”

The situation is quite concerning, and it is our hope that it will be resolved quickly and Dr. Tony Aziegbemi reunited with his family and loved ones.
