Easter Celebration: FG Declares Friday, Monday as Public Holidays

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, March 29 and Monday, April 1 as public holidays in observance of Good Friday and Easter Monday respectively. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government. The Minister urged Nigerians, particularly Christians, to emulate the sacrifice and love displayed by Jesus Christ in dying for the redemption of man.

In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, Easter was described as a time for reflection and renewed commitment to the values of love, forgiveness, and compassion. The statement further emphasized that these virtues are critical for societal peace and cohesion and urged Christians to imbibe them in their daily lives.

Dr. Ndayako called on Nigerians to use the occasion of Easter to promote unity and cooperation among themselves. He expressed optimism that the values of love, forgiveness, and compassion, if embraced by all Nigerians, can positively impact the socio-economic development of the country.

The statement also encouraged Nigerians to display acts of charity and generosity towards the less privileged in the society, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Minister of Interior charged Nigerians to support the Tinubu administration in its determination to bring sustainable development and prosperity for all. This, he said, can be achieved through collective efforts and cooperation from all Nigerians.
