Abure re-elected as LP national chairman, NLC kicks

Julius Abure has been re-elected as the National Chairman of the Labour Party for a second term, with full backing from all delegates, according to a report by Channels TV.

The announcement of his victory was made by Mr Ikechukwu Emetu, the Chairman of the National Convention and Deputy Governor of Abia State, during the party's national convention in Nnewi, Anambra State, on Wednesday.

Abure has been involved in a feud with the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress, led by Joe Ajaero.

In a reaction to this development, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has described yesterday’s national convention of the Labour Party (LP) as illegal and a nullity.

NLC spokesman Benson Upah, who declared the Union’s position yesterday, also affirmed that the Union will never back the party under Abure’s leadership
