FG moves to rejig the nation's tertiary institution's curriculum

The Federal Government  through the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu on Saturday  said efforts are on top gear to rejig the nation's tertiary education curriculum across the country to meet present day employment and economic realities.

The Minister who was represented by the Director  of Tertiary Education, Alhaja Rakiya Ilyasu stated this at the commissioning of a road project constructed and donated to the Auchi Polytechnic by Rt. Reverend, Dr. Matthew Okpebhoho at the Institution's campus.

Mallam Adamu Adamu said that the future of Nigeria's economy will not depend on white collar jobs but on self-employment, hence the need for the development of technical and vocational education as basis of economic  sustainability  and self-reliance.

The Minister said: "The economy of the future is not likely to be dependent on white collar jobs but on self-employment  especially in the opportunities offered in the agriculture  value chain and information and communication technology.

"In achieving these objectives there will be the need for a re-orientation in our educational curriculum,  a critical examination  ofmprogrammes offered in our institutions, the infrastructure and funding needed to meet the challenges of the time."

To this end, the Minister called on well meaning Nigerians to emulate the contribution of Rt, Reverend, Dr. Matthew Okpebholo for his contribution to educational development  and  advancement in Nigeria.

The donor was later presented with a letter of recommendation by the Minister for his numerous projects towards the development of education across the country.

Earlier, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Mustapha Zubair thanked the donor for fulfilling his promise of constructing a road project to the tune of #150m despite obvious challenges.

The Rector said: "The Polytechnic is indeed surprised at the uncommon generosity and tenacity of Rt. Reverend Dr. Matthew Okpebholo. In spite of obvious difficulties, he soldiered on to deliver on a promise to fund a project for the Polytechnic.

"The terrain of the road itself was very rough, slippery and undulating. And given the COVID-19 problem, the fluctuations in material prices, he went ahead to complete the project which we are commissioning today."

The Rector explained that the road project adds aesthetic value to the Polytechnic, ameliorates the pains and the inconveniences which staff and students had to endure.

The donor, Rt Revrend Dr. Matthew Okpebholo in his remarks, attributed the successful completion of the project to Almighty God. He thanked the Management of the Auchi Polytechnic for the privilege to construct the road.
