Edo 2020: Teachers cry out, beg Obaseki to pay marking fees

Teachers in Edo state are calling on the Governor of Edo state to pay them their marking fees. The teachers who had mark the junior school examination (jss 3), lament the suffering they have to go through to get their entitlement after completing the marking.

Speaking to journalist in Benin, the leader of the group Mr Osas Benjamin described the Governor as one who rate his government high in improving the education sector in papers but in reality there is nothing on ground to March such high rating.

He explained that  the past three years have been hectic and regretful for markers, we have to wait for about a year to get paid after marking, as this was not the practice before now. Further investigation revealed that both NECO and WAEC pays their marker two week after completion of marking, as that is the usual practice.

Benjamin said it was the intervention and pressure from private schools owners on the commissioner of education Hon. Jimoh ijegbai  that led to the last payment in 2018 after one year of marking same examination and ask educational stakeholders to speak out and put pressure on the Governor for the teachers to get paid.

"The condition of education sector in Edo state is a sorry state, particularly the secondary sector, no teachers in our schools and the N-power we do rely on are to the disengage by the federal government."

We just hope this government will do the needful to retain the N-power because if that is not done, the faith of the students in secondary schools will be disastrous Benjamin asserted.
