Coronavirus kills Nigerian governor as NCDC records 594 new cases Thursday

The immediate past Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, has died on Thursday at age 70 after battling coronavirus-related symptoms for a month.

Ajimobi, who was governor from 2011 to 2019, was named the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the ruling All Progressives Congress last month but never resumed.

The former governor was hospitalised at First Cardiologist and Cardiovascular Consultants Hospital, Lagos on June 2, 2020.



He was said to have tested negative for COVID-19 but the illness had caused his health to deteriorate.

Also on Thursday, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control reported 594 new cases of
#COVID19 in the country. A breakdown of the figure shows that Lagos tecorded 159 new cases followed by Delta with 106 new cases.

Others are; Ondo-44, FCT-34, Edo-34, Oyo-33, Kaduna-33, Enugu-28, Katsina-25, Imo-22, Adamawa-15, Ogun-12, Osun-11, Abia-8, Rivers-6, Nasarawa-5, Bauchi-5, Niger-5, Kebbi-4, Ekiti-3, Plateau-1, Taraba-1. Total confirmed cases now 22,614. 7,822 infected persons have been treated and discharged while the Centre recorded 549 deaths.
