Buhari transforms NPower into I-NSIP, streamlines Scheme

The Federal Government on Wednesday said plans are in top gear to transform and strenthened the National Social Investment Scheme, popularly known as NPower for greater efficiency.

At a Ministerial meeting held on Wednesday, the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry said that the Scheme will now be known as Integrated Social Investment Scheme I-NSIP with focus on providing skills and opportunity for vulnerable groups in key priority economic sectors which would translate to creating multidimensional wealth.

Under this new arrangement, the present Batch A Volunteers will graduate to a new department under Ministry of Humanitarian affairs that will be called I-NSIP. Through I-NSIP, some will work as direct staff with the Ministry of Affairs as Shock/disaster responsive staff, while some will work as life skill/ mentorship providers to Nigerians.

Under I-NSIP, some will work as full time teachers under the Fed. Ministry of Education.  N-health will be transformed to health support staff under the ministry of Health.
N-Agro will be transformed to trainers of young men and women to contribute to the entire Agricultural value chain so that it becomes more profitable under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. 

The Humanitarian Affairs Ministry stated in a tweet:
"As we expand the programs to reach more Nigerians, we have undertaken a review and re-appraisal of the programme in order to strengthen the program design and streamline for efficiency. 

"@FMHDSD has designed the Integrated National Social Investment Programme (I-NSIP)  to reposition N-SIP to cater to vulnerable groups by providing them access to shock responsive interventions, life skills & mentorship in order to systematically lift people out of poverty

"Secondly, the I-NSIP’s life skills component would focus on providing skills and opportunity for vulnerable groups in key priority economic sectors which would translate to creating multidimensional wealth.

"Through N-Health, I-NSIP can provide opportunities for skilled support staff as seen during the Covid-19 pandemic, which we would like to scale.

"During the last 4 years, N-Teach contributed to providing teachers at the State level, this will be further enhanced given the role of education in nation-building.

"Agriculture remains the sector with the biggest potential in our country, I-NSIP will train young men and women to contribute to the entire value chain so that it becomes more profitable.



"Over the past 4 years, N-Teach contributed to providing teachers at the State level, this will be further enhanced given the role of education in nation-building.

"The intention going forward is to enroll and empower more women so they can earn an income and be more self-sufficient. "
