Sim Card Case: Court orders DSS to Pay #10m over illegal detention of Anthony Okolie
A Federal High Court in Asaba Delta State has on Thursday slams #10m against Department of State Security Service (DSS) for unlawful detention and violation of fundamental human rights of one Mr. Anthony Okolie.
It was gathered that Mr. Okolie purchased SIM card previously used by President Buhari's daughter Hanan. Based on this the DSS arrested Mr. Anthony Okolie on July 22,2019 and subsequently transferred to Abuja office before he was released on December 9,2019.
The Telecom Company, MTN had recycled the mobile telephone number for sale in the market after a long years of redundancy. Fortunately for Mr. Okolie he still has the receipt he was given for the purchase of the SIM card in question.
Mr. Anthony Okolie through his Lawyer Bar. Akinloye filled a suit of # 500m against DSS for illegal detention and gross violation of his fundamental human rights.
Delivering the judgement on Thursday the Court ordered DSS to pay # 10m Compensation to Anthony Okolie for violating his human rights of quiet possession of goods and unlawful detention.
