Edo traffic boss resigns

The outgoing government of Governor Godwin Obaseki has suffered another casualty in its ranks with the resignation on Tuesday of the Operational Head of the Edo State Traffic Control & Management Agency, Mr Monday Ogiegor.

Mr Ogiegor who resigned in a letter he addressed to the Managing Director of the agency in Benin City, on Tuesday blamed what he called the, "totalitarianism, dictatorial tendencies, oppressiveness, anti democratization and concomitant dehumanization" of the Obaseki's government for his decision.

In the Letter of Resignation which he personally signed he said, "I write to withdraw my services from the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA); and by extension, the government of Edo state. Having carefully x-rayed the direction and foregoing of the Edo state government, I have come to the inevitable conclusion that the government of Godwin Obaseki is headed for irreparable disaster".

Mr Ogiegor also said, " My conscience continues to prick me each time I remember that I am part of a government that has continued to witch hunt and ridicule my fellow party men and women unabated. This is certainly not the route I envisaged for myself in the later future".

He concluded, "I have come barefaced with the painful decision to bow out from this government. I thank the State government for the opportunity given to me to serve in such capacity that I found myself and I wish them well in their future endeavours".
