Edo speaker who tested positive for Coronavirus resumes office

The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Frank Okiye who tested positive for COVID-19 recently has resumed duty.

Recall that the Speaker had tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) about four weeks ago as announced by the state government.

The government in a statement said: “The index case of coronavirus in Edo State, is the Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Frank Okiye. He travelled to United Kingdom, he came back and went into self-isolation. He sent his sample for testing and it came out positive,” Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu told journalists.

“He is in stable condition. His family members have also been tested and the tests came out negative,”

The statement also stated that the Speaker prepared his isolation centre even before his return from UK and embarked on self-isolation immediately he arrived in his country home in Uromi.

But the State Deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, had on the 30th of March reported that the Speaker has fully recovered and tested negative for the virus. He stated this while briefing the press on the situation report in the State.
