'One chance robber nabbed in Ogun State

A middle aged man identified as Makinde, who belonged to a 'one-chance' syndicate that put a vehicle on the Sango-Owode Road along Idiroko in Ogun State, disguising as a commercial vehicle, whilst doing that for an ulterior motive of dispossessing unsuspecting passengers of their belongings has been arrested by the Police.

This blog learnt that the syndicate, most often, targets females who, apart from losing their valuables to Makinde and his other gang members now at large, were also raped.

They were however, caught on September 13, 2019 after his gang operated on two ladies.

The female victims had, according to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a press statement made available to newsmen, boarded the vehicle, wherein Makinde and one other were on board as passengers.

According to the accounts of the victims, relayed to the police at Atan-Otta Police Division, Gloria Edoh and Saidat Akinola, they both boarded the cab from Owode enroute to Sango, but on getting to Olokopupo area of Atan otta, Makinde and his co-traveler in the wicked act, suddenly brought out knives and other dangerous weapons with which they forced them to surrender their belongings. The sums of #37, 000 and #48, 0000 were collected from each of them.

They were also forced to part with their Techno phones and thereafter, pushed them out of the moving vehicle, thereby sustaining varying degree of injuries.

The victims had to go for treatments at a nearby hospital.

Makinde, however met his waterloo as the victims were leaving the hospital, they sighted and identified him as one of the hoodlums that traumatized them and raised an alarm.

The alarm caught the attention of the DPO Atan-Otta, SP Abiodun Salau who, it was gathered, was on a routine patrol of the area with his men.

The patrol team raced to the scene where the suspect was arrested, with the help of members of the public, and taken to the station.

To worsen the situation for Makinde, at the station, one woman (name withheld) who had earlier complained of a similar incident, identified him as one of the hoodlums who robbed and raped her a day previous, September 12, recalling that her pant was also made away with by the evil men.

"The suspect has confessed participating in the two robbery incidents", the PPRO said, adding that the State Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, had ordered the transfer of the suspect to Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for discreet investigation.
